The Gap Between Real Life and the App
You split dinner, then your partner Venmos you before you have even left the restaurant. Or you hand over cash. Or it comes out in the wash because they covered the groceries last week.
Until now, Halfway had no way to know any of that happened. The expense sat in your running balance as though it were still outstanding, and the only ways out were to delete the transaction, which wrecked your reports, or to log a settlement that did not really match anything.
One Toggle Fixes It
Shared expenses now have an Already settled toggle. Flip it when the two of you have squared up outside the app, and Halfway does exactly the right thing with it.
What It Does and Does Not Do
This is the important part. An already-settled expense still counts in your reports, your category breakdowns, and your budgets, because you really did spend that money and pretending otherwise would make your spending look artificially low.
What changes is that it is excluded from who owes what. It stops inflating your running balance, so the number on your dashboard reflects what is genuinely still outstanding between you.
Set It and Forget It
If you and your partner always square up a certain kind of expense immediately, you can teach a Smart Rule to mark it for you. The rule applies to shared expenses only, and it will never touch anything from before a settlement, so your history stays honest.
Small feature, but it closes the gap between how couples actually handle money and what the app was willing to believe.
