Managing Your Household
Absolutely! Halfway is designed for fairness, not just 50/50 splits. You can set a default split based on income percentage or customize the split for any individual transaction.
Halfway is built primarily for couples, but you can absolutely use it solo! Just skip the invite step. You'll still get access to budgets, expense tracking, financial goals, and Penny. If your partner doesn't want to use the app, you can still use it on your own to track shared expenses you pay for and keep a clear record to help you settle up later.
The 'Settle Up' feature calculates who owes whom based on all shared expenses. It simplifies the math by netting out debts, so you only need to make one transfer to get back to even. You can settle up via external payment methods (like Venmo or Zelle) and then record it in Halfway.
Absolutely! You can set custom split ratios for each expense category or individual transaction. For example, if one partner earns more, you might split rent 60/40 or 70/30. Halfway makes fair splitting flexible and transparent.
Security & Privacy
Security is our top priority. We use Plaid to securely connect to your financial institutions, meaning we never see or store your bank login credentials. All your data is encrypted with bank-level security (TLS in transit, AES-256 at rest), and we do not sell your personal information.
Yes! Every transaction can be marked as 'Mine', 'Theirs', or 'Shared'. Your personal expenses stay private to you, and only shared expenses are visible to your partner. This helps you maintain independence while staying transparent about shared costs.
Yes, you can export your transaction history to a CSV file at any time from the Settings menu. This is useful for your own records or for importing into other financial tools.
