Fair doesn't mean equal. We built the app that gets it.
Halfway is a budgeting app for couples who don't earn the same. It splits shared expenses by income, not 50/50, so both partners contribute fairly.
Boilerplate
Most couples split bills 50/50. Halfway doesn't. When two people earn different amounts, splitting evenly isn't splitting fairly. Set your incomes once, and every shared bill splits proportionally, automatically. Both partners contribute the same percentage of what they earn, not the same dollar amount. Personal spending stays private. Shared expenses stay visible.
By the numbers
The story
Shashank Imarati and his partner did what most couples do when they moved in together: split everything 50/50. It seemed fair. It wasn’t.
One of them earned more. The other was constantly stressed about money while the higher earner had plenty left over. After their worst fight about it, the realization hit: equal and fair aren’t the same thing. If both partners contribute the same percentage of their income, not the same dollar amount, both feel the same financial pressure. That’s actual fairness.
No app did this. So Shashank built one.
Halfway now automates the fair split, keeps personal spending private from your partner, and has grown to users in 30+ countries, self-funded, with no outside investment.
What makes it different
- Income-based splittingSet your incomes once. Every shared expense splits proportionally, at any ratio.
- Private by default, not by settingPersonal spending is invisible to your partner unless you mark it shared. Even your net worth shows only your side of the household.
- A forecast built for two peopleMost planning tools assume one pot of money. Halfway projects three ways: just you, the shared life, and the two of you together.
- Free sessions with a registered financial advisorTwo of them, included with Premium. No asset minimum, no sales pitch.
