We Built This Because We Needed It
My partner made more than me. For the first year, we split everything 50/50 because that's what seemed "fair."
Wrong.
I was stressed about money constantly while she had plenty left over. She felt guilty every time she wanted to do something I couldn't afford. The resentment built quietly until it wasn't quiet anymore.
Late one night, after the worst fight we'd ever had about money, it clicked: "equal" and "fair" aren't the same thing. If we both contribute the same percentage of our income, not the same dollar amount, we'd both feel the same pressure. That's actual fairness.
We looked for an app that did this. Nothing existed. Every budgeting app treated couples like two separate users or like roommates keeping score. So we built Halfway.
What We Believe
Fair means proportional, not equal. Independence matters. Money shouldn't be the thing that breaks an otherwise good relationship. These aren't slogans. They're the reason Halfway exists.
Couples who use Halfway argue about money 43% less. That's the only metric we care about.
About the Founder

I'm Shashank Imarati. I started Halfway in my kitchen, somewhere between arguing about groceries and realizing we were doing this whole money thing wrong.
I'm a marketer by heart. Previously founded FlashFeed. I've spent my career building products that solve real problems, but Halfway is the most personal one yet. My partner and I use it every day. It has to work.
