Security is our top priority:

• Encryption: We use bank-level 256-bit encryption for all data in transit and at rest.
• No Selling Data: We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
• Read-Only Access: When you connect a bank, we only get read-only access. We cannot move money or change settings at your bank.

Halfway is designed for independence:

• Shared Transactions: Your partner CAN see these.
• Personal Transactions: Your partner CANNOT see these. They are completely private to you.
• Bank Balances: By default, total account balances are private unless you explicitly choose to share them in Net Worth settings.

Net worth works the same way. The Combined view means your own private items plus everything shared, in other words your side of the household. It never means both of you added together, so your partner can't work out what you hold privately, and you can't work out theirs.

When you use our AI assistant, Penny, your data is handled with strict privacy controls:

• Real-Time Processing: Penny processes your queries in real-time. Conversations are NOT stored.
• Anonymized Context: Financial context sent to AI providers is anonymized where possible.
• Household Privacy: Penny respects your boundaries. It only sees your personal transactions and those marked as shared. When Penny creates a transaction for you, it follows your existing privacy settings. Personal transactions stay personal.
• Action Confirmation: When you ask Penny to log a transaction or create a budget, she prepares everything and shows you a confirmation card first. Nothing is created until you review and approve it. You are always in control.
• No Training Data: Powered by Google Gemini and OpenAI, your data is not used to train their public models.
• Verify Information: AI can make mistakes. Always verify important financial information independently.
