What stays free

Unlimited transactions, income-based fair splitting, settling up, unlimited shared and personal budgets, goals, recurring bills, reports, and a full export of your own data. None of that has a cap, and none of it is going behind a paywall.

One subscription, both of you

A single subscription covers your whole household. You do not both pay, and it does not matter which of you bought it.

Where Plus is available

Plus is sold everywhere except the United States and Canada. In those two countries the paid plan is Premium, which includes everything in Plus plus automatic bank syncing and two sessions with a financial professional.

The short answer

Automatic bank syncing runs through a service called Plaid, which connects to banks in the United States and Canada. It does not cover banks elsewhere, so we cannot offer it in your country. We would rather say that plainly than promise a date we cannot keep.

What Halfway does instead

Everything else works exactly the same. You add expenses yourself, which takes a few seconds, and Halfway does the parts that are actually hard: splitting fairly by income, keeping the running balance between you, and showing where the money went.

Plus is built for this way of working. You can log an expense in any currency, keep cash and savings balances up to date, and set up rules so the same shop is categorised the same way every time without you touching it.

Import your bank's file

Most banks let you download your transactions as a CSV file. With Plus, bring up to a year of them in at once: go to Settings > Your Data > Import from a bank file.

Coming from Splitwise?

Bring your history with you: export your group from Splitwise as a CSV, then go to Settings > Your Data > Import from Splitwise.

Subscribing

Plus is bought inside the Halfway app, through the App Store or Google Play. Open the app, go to the plans screen, and choose monthly or yearly. Your store charges you in your own currency using the payment method already on your store account.

You cannot subscribe to Plus on the website. If you are reading this on a computer, open the app on your phone.

Cancelling

Because the store handles the payment, cancelling is done in your store account, not in Halfway. On an iPhone: Settings, your name, Subscriptions. On Android: the Play Store app, your profile, Payments and subscriptions.

You keep Plus until the end of the period you have already paid for.

Refunds

Refunds are handled by the App Store or Google Play under their own policies, so we cannot issue one directly. Contact us anyway if something has gone wrong and we will help you sort it out.

Changing phones, or reinstalling

Your subscription follows your Halfway account, not the device. If it does not appear after reinstalling, use "Restore purchases" on the plans screen.

Nothing is deleted

Your transactions, budgets, goals, categories, rules, tags and forecast all stay exactly where they are. Cancelling changes what you can create, never what you already have.

• Every transaction you have logged, including ones in another currency
• Your custom categories, and you can still rename or delete them
• Your existing rules keep categorising as before
• Your tags stay on the transactions that carry them
• Unlimited transactions, budgets, goals and splitting, as always
• Downloading all your data as a CSV

What locks

• Creating new custom categories, rules or tags
• Logging new expenses in another currency
• Forecasting, including any scenarios you saved
• PDF reports
• Penny goes back to 10 chats a month

If you subscribe again

Everything comes back as it was. Your saved forecast scenarios, rules and categories are waiting; nothing has to be rebuilt.

You keep what you had

If your household was using Halfway before Plus launched, everything you had access to then stays yours, at no cost, for as long as you use Halfway. That includes custom categories, rules, tags, expenses in other currencies and forecasting, depending on what was available to you at the time.

You do not need to do anything, and there is nothing to claim. If your partner joins later, they are covered by the same household.

Why you might still see Plus mentioned

Plan names appear on pricing pages and comparison tables that are written for everyone, including people signing up today. Seeing "Plus" next to something you already use does not mean it is being taken away from you.

If something has actually stopped working

That is not this. Nothing about Plus removes a feature from a household that already had it, so if something you were using has stopped, please contact us and we will look into it.

How it works

When you add an expense, pick the currency next to the amount and type what you actually paid. Halfway converts it into your household currency using the exchange rate for the date of the expense, so a £60 dinner in London lands in a euro household as roughly €70.

Both figures are kept. The original is shown alongside so you can always see what you really paid.

Why the converted amount is editable

Your bank usually adds a small fee on top of the exchange rate, so the amount on your statement is a little different from the market rate. You can correct the converted figure to match your statement exactly, and your budgets will agree with your bank rather than with a rate table.

Which currency your household uses

That is set once in Settings, and it is the currency all your budgets, splits and balances are calculated in. Changing it does not rewrite past transactions.

Priced per market, not converted

A single price converted into every currency ends up wrong almost everywhere: it is far more than a budgeting app usually costs in some countries, and less than it should be in others. So we set the price market by market, in round numbers that look normal where you live.

What you are charged

The App Store or Google Play shows the exact price before you confirm, in your own currency, including any local tax. That is the figure you pay, and it is the one to trust if anything elsewhere disagrees.

Yearly costs less

The yearly plan works out around a third cheaper than paying monthly. Both cover your whole household.
