If you use Apple Card, Apple Cash or Savings, your iPhone can share them with Halfway directly. There's no bank login: you choose the accounts on Apple's own screen, and your iPhone sends the balances and transactions.

What you need

• The Halfway app on an iPhone running iOS 17.4 or later. It isn't available on the web, on Android or on iPad.
• A Premium plan, the same as connecting a bank.
• Apple Card, Apple Cash or Savings set up in your Wallet. Apple Card Family participants can't share; only the account owner can.

Connecting

1. Open Halfway on your iPhone and go to Accounts.
2. Tap Add an account, then Apple Card, Apple Cash and Savings.
3. Apple asks which accounts to share. Choose them and tap Continue.

How it stays up to date

Apple Wallet updates when you open Halfway on your iPhone, not on a schedule in the background. If you only use Halfway on a computer for a while, these balances will sit still until you next open the app on your phone. Everything else, including connected banks, keeps syncing as normal.

What the transactions look like

Apple doesn't send a merchant name for Apple Cash or Savings, so those rows arrive with short descriptions like "Deposit", "Transfer" or "Savings Interest Earned". You can rename any of them.

Money you move into or out of Apple Cash or Savings is treated as a transfer between your own accounts, so it isn't counted as income or as spending. It still appears for review, so you can change it if it really was income. Apple Card purchases count as spending, and paying your Apple Card bill is treated as a card payment rather than new spending, so nothing is counted twice.

Privacy

These accounts are personal until you choose otherwise, exactly like a connected bank. Your partner sees nothing from them unless you mark an account as Joint or a transaction as Shared.

You can stop sharing at any time in iPhone Settings, Privacy & Security, Wallet, Halfway, or by unlinking Apple Wallet in Halfway. Unlinking keeps the transactions already in Halfway.

If you change iPhone

Sharing is tied to the device. On a new phone, connect Apple Wallet again from Add an account, and your existing accounts and history are picked up where they left off.

Premium members can connect bank accounts for automatic syncing:

1. Go to the Accounts page.
2. Click Connect Bank.
3. Follow the Plaid prompts to find your bank and log in securely.
4. Select the accounts you want to sync.

Transactions usually appear within a few hours of posting to your bank.

Your history comes in automatically

When you connect a bank, we import the history your bank makes available. The exact amount varies by bank, but it is usually several months. Everything is categorised for you and saved as Personal.

That means your reports, spending trends and net worth are useful straight away, and none of that history changes what you and your partner owe each other.

Reviewing starts when you connect

Your Review Queue starts fresh. From the moment you connect, we will ask whether each new transaction is shared or personal. Most take a single tap.

We do this because a first connection often brings in more than a thousand transactions. Sorting through months of history before you have even used the app is work almost nobody finishes, and most of it was settled between the two of you at the time anyway.

Why something old might still appear

Banks often post a purchase a few days after you make it. If you bought something last week and it only reaches us tomorrow, it will show up in your Review Queue. That is expected: the queue is about when a transaction arrives, not the date printed on it.

Nothing is locked in

Want to split something from before you connected? Open the Transactions page, find it, and change it from Personal to Shared. You can do this at any time, for any transaction.

Each connected bank account can be set to one of three sharing modes that control how transactions are handled:

Personal

Only you use this account. Transactions stay private unless you choose to share them. This is the default for newly connected accounts.

Best for your own cards and bank accounts.

Joint

Both of you use this account. New transactions are automatically shared and count toward your settlement.

Best for a shared credit card where one person pays the bill.

Pooled Fund

Both of you contribute to this account upfront. Transactions are automatically shared, but they don't affect who owes what since you've already split the cost.

Best for a joint bank account you both deposit into.

How to Change

Go to Settings > Accounts, find your account, and select Account Sharing from the menu. You can switch between modes at any time.

What Happens to Existing Transactions?

• When switching from Personal to Joint or Pooled Fund: only unclassified (unreviewed) expense transactions are updated to shared. Transactions you've already marked as personal stay private.
• When switching to Personal: future transactions will default to personal, but existing shared transactions are not changed.

Your explicitly personal transactions are always protected. Halfway never overrides them.

If your transactions aren't showing up:

• Wait 24 hours: Sometimes banks delay sending data.
• Check for errors: Go to the Accounts page. If a connection needs attention (e.g., re-authentication), you'll see a "Fix Connection" button.
• Pending transactions: We generally only import "Posted" transactions to avoid changes, though some banks support pending data.

To remove a bank connection:

1. Go to the Accounts page.
2. Find the institution you want to remove.
3. Click the Disconnect button.

Note: This stops new transactions from importing. Existing transactions that have already been imported will remain in your history.

Halfway uses Plaid to connect to over 12,000 financial institutions across North America and Europe, including major banks like Chase, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Amex, and most credit unions.

If you can't find your bank in the search list, it may not be supported by Plaid yet.
