There are two different downloads, and they're for different jobs.

1. Export all data: a full CSV backup

Go to Settings > Your Data and tap Export All Data (CSV). You get a ZIP containing seven spreadsheet files:

  • transactions.csv: every transaction, with who paid and how it was split
  • budgets.csv
  • goals.csv
  • net-worth-assets.csv and net-worth-liabilities.csv
  • rules.csv: your transaction rules
  • settlements.csv: every payment recorded between you

This is the one to use for a backup, for your accountant, or if you ever want to move to another tool. It opens straight in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets.

2. Reports: PDF or CSV for one period

From the Reports page, tap the menu in the top corner and pick Export as PDF or Export as CSV. You get a category breakdown for whatever period and view you're currently looking at, so set the date range and the My Spending / Shared / Personal filter first.

The Settlement Report can be exported the same way, which is handy if you want a record of who owed what over a period.

There's also a one-tap Monthly Report (PDF) in Settings > Your Data. Pick a month and download it. The PDF is formatted and branded, so it's the one to send someone; the CSV is the one to do sums with.

Which should I use?

  • Doing your taxes or seeing an accountant? Export All Data.
  • Want to check one month's spending in a spreadsheet? Reports, export as CSV.
  • Want something to read or send? Monthly Report PDF.

On mobile

Downloads open your phone's share sheet, so you can save the file to Files, send it to yourself, or drop it straight into email.

A note on Premium

Report exports are a Premium feature. Your data is always yours though: if you cancel, you keep access to Export All Data so you can always take everything with you.

Yes. If you have an audience or work with clients, you can apply to the Halfway affiliate program and earn commission when people you send us subscribe.

Who it is for

  • Creators, podcasters, newsletter writers and communities
  • Financial coaches who work with couples
  • Financial advisors and planners

How it works

You apply on the affiliate program page. A person reads every application and you will hear back within five business days either way. It is not open to everyone, so applying is not the same as being accepted.

If it is a fit, we switch the program on for the Halfway account you already sign in with. There is no separate portal and no second password. An Affiliate item appears in your navigation, under Discover on desktop or in the More menu on mobile, and opens your affiliate dashboard.

What you earn

25% of what a household pays when they subscribe with your code or through your link. One commission per household, paid once, and your code gives them a discount too. Commission is held for 30 days, then paid monthly by bank transfer once your balance passes $50.

Your affiliate dashboard

  • Overview: what you have earned, your next payment, what is still in the 30-day hold, your code and link to copy, and a link builder for any page on the site, calculators included.
  • Performance: clicks, customers and commission month by month, and a monthly statement you can download as a CSV.
  • Payments: every payment we have sent, with the date, the earnings it covers and the bank reference.

To see results by campaign, add &sub_id= and a name to your link, for example ?aff=yourname&sub_id=newsletter. Each one shows separately under Performance.

If you cannot accept commission

Some advisors and planners work to standards that rule out payment from anyone other than their client. Say so on the application form and we will set you up with a code that gives your clients a discount and pays you nothing.

The full terms are on the program page, collapsed under Program terms.

Net worth is everything you own minus everything you owe. Add anything you like, such as property, investments, vehicles, loans or credit card balances, whether or not it's connected to a bank.

The three views

  • Personal: only your own items, the ones you haven't marked as shared.
  • Shared: only the items you and your partner have marked as shared, like a house or a joint account.
  • Combined: your personal items plus the shared ones.

Combined is your side of the household, not the pair of you added up. That's deliberate: it means neither of you can work out what the other holds privately. If you want a true household total, you'd both need to share the items you want counted.

Adding something

  1. Go to Net Worth.
  2. Tap Add asset or Add liability.
  3. Give it a name, a value and a type, and choose whether it's shared.

Connected accounts appear automatically and keep their balances up to date. Anything you add by hand you update yourself, which is useful for things a bank doesn't know about, like a car or a property valuation.

To update your personal details:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Click on your name/avatar at the top.
  3. Make your changes and save.

You can customize your notifications:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Notifications.
  3. Toggle alerts for new transactions, budget warnings, or weekly summaries.

Any household member can remove the other partner. Here's what happens:

How to Remove a Member

  1. Go to Settings > Members.
  2. Click the Remove button next to your partner's name.
  3. Confirm the action.

What Happens When You Remove Someone

  • Their account is removed from your household: They will no longer have access to shared data.
  • Unsettled balance warning: If there's an outstanding balance between you, you'll see a warning. You can choose to force remove them anyway.
  • Premium cancellation: If the removed partner was the Premium subscriber, Premium will be cancelled immediately and you'll lose access to Premium features.
  • Shared data remains: Transactions, budgets, and goals stay in the household.
  • Their personal data is deleted: Their personal transactions and settings are permanently removed.

What the Removed Partner Can Do

The removed partner can:

  • Create a new household
  • Join another household if invited
  • Start over with a fresh account

We're sorry to see you go. To delete your account:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Security.
  3. Scroll to the bottom and select Danger Zone.
  4. Click Delete Account.

What Happens When You Delete Your Account

  • Your data is permanently erased: This action cannot be undone.
  • Premium cancellation: If you purchased Premium, your subscription will be cancelled immediately. Your partner will lose access to all Premium features.
  • Your partner keeps their account: Their account and your shared transactions, budgets and goals stay in their household.
  • Settle-up history is deleted: Every settle-up you were part of is removed. Your partner keeps the shared expenses, but they will show as never settled.
  • Bank connections removed: Any connected bank accounts are permanently disconnected.
  • You can return later: You can create a new account with the same email address if you change your mind.

Warning: This action is permanent. All your personal data, rules, and settings will be permanently deleted.
